Language Program Funding Expressions of Interest

November 2, 2023

Last updated December 15, 2023: This Expression of Interest is now closed.

Note: If you missed the deadline to submit an expression of interest, but are interested in accessing language funding for 2024, please contact our team at eoi@fpcc.ca

Introduction

FPCC has several programs that support B.C. First Nations and their communities with language revitalization funding and support. The Language Program funding process is different this year as it will begin with the submission of an Expression of Interest (EOI). We are also requesting participation in the Department of Canadian Heritage Survey, find out more after the EOI information below.

The request for EOI submissions is for all Language Programs that are offered to organizations. This includes Pathways to Language Vitality, Language Technology Program, Language Revitalization Planning Program, and Reclaiming My Language Program.

Here is What’s Changed

FPCC is preparing for a potential change in funding next year due to the expiration of current funding commitments. We are doing everything we can to advocate for more funding. In the meantime, we are offering a streamlined two-step application process to reduce the amount of work required by applicants until our funding is confirmed.

  1. The submission of a brief Expression of Interest that will support FPCC’s assessment of the current priorities for B.C. First Nations language programming.
  2. Once the EOI submissions have been reviewed and funding levels are confirmed, FPCC will invite applications to specific programs.

*Please note that this not an application for funding. This is your indication that you are interested in applying for funding in the project areas you have selected and to identify your program priorities.

As we work together to continue vital language programs, the information collected in this EOI will support funding advocacy work and identify where resources are most needed.  Once funding is confirmed, we will be better prepared to move forward with the application process in a way that respects applicants’ time and effort

We understand that you may be concerned for your upcoming language programming. As a region of great language diversity, home to over 50% of Indigenous languages in Canada, FPCC is working hard to secure additional long-term and sustainable funding to continue this important work.

If you currently have FPCC funding and want to receive support in planning for potential changes, please contact your Program Coordinator. Contact information is listed at the bottom of each program page at FPCC.ca.

Eligibility

Please consider submitting an Expression of Interest if you are:

  • An existing language program grant recipient
  • A First Nations language champion (teacher, program manager, or other) working within an eligible organization
  • A B.C. First Nation organization such as a band, tribal council, education/ employment/ skills/ culture/ wellness society with a minimum of 75% B.C. First Nations governance.

We are here to help!

If you have concerns or questions about the EOI submission, we are available to assist and would like to hear from you. Please contact a member of our team at eoi@fpcc.ca.

Department of Canadian Heritage Survey

The Indigenous Languages Act includes a priority to provide ongoing programmatic funding. PCH is putting out a survey to assess interest in ongoing programmatic funding and to determine who would be eligible for this kind of funding. FPCC is delivering this survey on behalf of PCH in B.C., as part of the EOI form.  We invite communities and organizations to complete this survey as the information will be invaluable to make the case for further investment in language revitalization.
