Truth & Reconciliation Events Happening in B.C.
On September 30th, FPCC honours the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
We raise our hands to all Indigenous residential and day school survivors. We stand by those who continue to advocate for justice, truth, accountability and reconciliation.
Community events are important opportunities to spread awareness and inspire actions to support reconciliation. We encourage all advocates and allies to participate in events in their area.
The events below are either free to attend or by donation.
- Location: Memorial Peace Park, Maple Ridge
- Date: Sunday, September 29, 2024 | 9:45 am–3:00 pm
- Event Details: The theme is “Acknowledging Indigenous Resilience” and is being planned by a large group of local organizations. The day will feature: The day’s events that will feature: an opening march, Indigenous guest speakers, orange shirt painting and much more!

- Location: Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre, Squamish
- Date: Monday, September 30, 2024 | 10:00 am–5:00pm
- Event Details: Visit the SLCC for a day of reflection, stories, learning and contemplation. The day will be filled with programming throughout the Great Hall, Theatre, Galleries, and out on the Mezzanine patio.

- Date: Monday, September 30, 2024 | 10:30 am PT & 1:00 pm PT
- Event Details: The Museum of Vancouver and the National Film Board are partnering to screen films by Indigenous directors. WaaPake (Tomorrow) and Our People Will Be Healed are both films about how Indigenous communities are coming together to heal and move forward.

- Event Details: SNIWWOC will be hosting their annual event for an evening of education, togetherness, and remembrance for Truth and Reconciliation. Learn about the sacred Indigenous practice of Ribbon Skirt making and witness testimony from residential school survivors.

- Location: Place Des Arts, Coquitlam
- Date: Monday, September 30, 2024 | 1:00-2:00 pm, 2:20-3:20 pm & 3:45-4:45 pm
- Event Details: In this one-hour workshop you will learn from Christine Mackenzie, an Indigenous artist, facilitator, speaker and curator. She will show you how to use different art mediums by creating a small, mixed media art piece to take home as a reminder of the event.

- Event Details: Join Dr Lorna ‘Wanósts’a7’ Williams, chair of First Peoples’ Cultural Council, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation for an insightful conversation. Guests are asked to wear orange and bring their own chair.

- Event Details: Join the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation for this commemorative and healing journey through story sharing, drumming, dancing and song.

- Date: Friday, September 27, 2024 | 2:00 – 5:00 pm
- Event Details: Explore the rich tapestry of the Secwépemc culture. The event will offer a shortened tour of the Kamloops Indian Residential School. Places for these tours are limited, so be sure to sign up in advance to secure your spot.
