Up to $100,000 in funding, resources and support available
FPCC is providing up to $100,000 in funding, resources and coaching to support language revitalization plans through our updated Language Revitalization Planning Program. The program can support language planning in a single community, with multiple communities and at the nation level. We have provided grants to support language planning since 2010, but felt the program could be strengthened.
“This program recognizes that all communities have different experiences with planning, and offers flexibility so it can work for everyone, at all stages in the process,” said FPCC Language Coach TE,LI,MET,ȾTEN Glenn Jim.
The new program, which runs from April 2021 to April 2022, is designed to support communities at all stages of language planning. The program has four phases that reflect the cyclical nature of planning work, the natural flow from one season to the next, and the different work that takes place in each season. The deadline to apply is January 25, 2021.
For example, the spring phase is for people who are new to the planning process and for projects in early stages, or communities that want to reassess their progress. The outcome of this phase is a full assessment of the status of language in the community. It provides an opportunity to reflect on what has been done to date and to prepare for work that will be done in summer phase.
The summer phase includes community visioning and goal setting. Autumn builds from the vision and goals with action plans, budgets and evaluation strategies. Communities in the winter phase have a language plan and are gathering to celebrate, reflect and continue work to finalize the plan and have it ratified by their community’s leadership.
