Overview – Artificial Intelligence AI for Indigenous Language Revitalization

Artificial Intelligence AI for Indigenous Language Revitalization: Emerging Concerns was developed by a group of language revitalization practitioners, engineers and researchers who share a common goal of supporting Indigenous language revitalization in close collaboration with communities.

This paper provides information, risks and tips regarding the use of AI in language revitalization tools. AI tools are being marketed to communities to solve many different challenges that communities face in language revitalization. We wish to share knowledge about the risks and equip communities with information to support their decision making before engaging with these technologies.

Ten Questions to Ask Tech Companies about Indigenous Data Sovereignty is an included companion guide to support information gathering when engaging with technology companies who utlilize AI and want to access language resources.
