Become fluent in your B.C. First Nations language through immersion learning with FPCC’s one-on-one Mentor Apprentice program!

FPCC’s Mentor-Apprentice Program (MAP) offers two streams for different types of learners:
- MAP – up to $21,000 (plus expenses to attend required workshop): offers 300 hours of immersion per year. For learners ages 16-50 with the goal of passing the language on to others. Intended as a three-year program, Apprentices who have completed 300 hours and meet all program requirements will be invited to reapply for the next program year.
- MAP: Connections – up to $6,500: less intensive and suitable for all language learners. It offers 100 hours of immersion per year at a flexible pace. For learners ages 16 and up. Intended as a three-year program, Apprentices who have completed 100 hours and meet all program requirements will be invited to reapply for the next program year.

Eligibility
- B.C. First Nations individuals, status or non-status, currently living on or off reserve in B.C.,
- Learning one of the 36 First Nations languages in B.C. funded by FPCC.
- MAP is only for learners between the ages of 16-50 who are learning with the goal to pass the language to others.
- MAPC is for anyone ages 16 and up.
Online info session
To support applicants, we will be hosting an online info session on August 27, 2025, from
12:00 pm – 1:00 pm (PT). A recording is available to view in advance on the program page. Attend the info session for additional application information and an opportunity to ask questions.

Prior to starting your application, please visit the MAP program page for more information, links to the guidelines and application, to view the webinar and register for the info session.
FPCC Mentor-Apprentice Program applications are accepted on the FPCC Grant Portal.
FPCC Language applications take time to complete. We recommend starting the application as soon as possible to gather the required information and materials, and to leave time to reach out to staff if you need support. Significant reading and writing are required throughout the application process, along with seeking support letters.
