FPCC’s Mentor-Apprentice Community funding assists First Nations in B.C. to increase the number of fluent speakers in their communities.
Mentor-Apprentice Community supports three to six teams in the Mentor-Apprentice Program (MAP) and provides funding for a group coordinator. Having a group of active Mentor-Apprentice teams working together creates more connections between speakers and learners, greater opportunities to learn from each other and keeps learning fun. This is a great way to increase the momentum of language revitalization in your community!
Teams complete one-on-one language learning while also participating in some groups activities. The total for each grant ranges from $59,550 for 3 teams and up to $107,850 for 6 teams including up to $11,250 in funding to hire a community coordinator to support a group of Mentor-Apprentice teams. An additional travel grant will cover costs to attend an FPCC program workshop. Any group gatherings must comply with current COVID-19 health regulations.
The community coordinator assists the teams with reporting, panel evaluations, administration and coordinates group gatherings and activities.
To apply, you must identify three to six Mentor-Apprentice teams and a coordinator. The teams can be in neighbouring communities that share the same language. Communities that already have active Mentor-Apprentice teams can include those teams in their submission.

This program is open to B.C. First Nations individuals ages 16 or older who live in B.C. You do not need to be living in your community (on reserve) to be eligible and urban applicants will be considered. Existing Mentor-Apprentice teams are eligible to apply.
