A Language Status Assessment (LSA) is a survey to help communities track the progress of their language activities. For communities already providing language programming, it can assist with finding which strategies are resulting in the best outcomes and show areas that may need more support. Communities that are not yet providing language programming can use the information to show a baseline and decide where it might be best to get started.
We ask First Nations communities in B.C. to fill out an LSA once every four years. We are now collecting surveys for the 2026 Status Report. If you have applied for funding for 2025-26, a completed LSA is required.
