Who we are

The First Peoples’ Cultural Council (FPCC) is a provincial Crown Corporation formed by the government of British Columbia in 1990 to administer the First Peoples’ Heritage, Language and Culture Program. The First Peoples‘ Cultural Council is supported by legislation: First Peoples’ Heritage, Language and Culture Act. The mandate of FPCC is to assist B.C. First Nations in their efforts to revitalize their languages, arts and cultures.

Terms of Use Agreement

By accessing the First Peoples’ Cultural Council (FPCC) website, you agree to our terms for use and you agree these terms constitute a binding contract between the user and FPCC.

Trademarks

The First Peoples’ Cultural Council (FPCC) logo is owned by First Peoples’ Cultural Council (FPCC). FirstVoices and the FirstVoices logo are registered word-marks owned by First Peoples’ Cultural Foundation (FPCF). The FirstVoices word-marks are used to identify Indigenous language services provided by FirstVoices staff and members of associated Indigenous language communities collaborating with FPCC on the development of language archives.

Other trademarks used on the FPCC websites may be owned by project funders, sponsors, supporters, and other third parties. Nothing contained on this site gives any user the right or license to use any trademark displayed on this site without the express permission of the owner.

Links & Frames

All links to any FPCC website must be accompanied by a prominent notice which makes it clear to a browser that the link leads to a website of the First Peoples’ Cultural Council.

No materials, names or marks may be used with the link to give the erroneous impression to a user that the individual, entity or website is somehow affiliated with FPCC or the FirstVoices web site.

No technology may be used to display the content of the FPCC web site in a frame or in any other manner that is different from how it would appear if a user typed the URL into the browser line. The link must result in a new, fully functional, full screen browser window occupied solely by the pages created by the FPCC website.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

About your privacy

FPCC is committed to protecting your privacy. We collect, use and disclose your personal information in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA) and other applicable legislation.

‘Personal information’ is defined broadly in the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act as recorded information about an identifiable individual, other than contact information, which is the information used to contact a person at a place of business.

We collect information about your visit, including personal information, through the use of audit logs and cookies.

Cookies

A cookie is a small file stored on your computer by your web browser when using some websites.

If you visit our website, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

What data we collect

The information collected is:

  • The URL (web address) of the first website you visit immediately upon leaving the FPCC website if you were referred to that website by the FPCC website.
  • The Internet Protocol (IP) network domain name (e.g. shaw.ca) and address (e.g. 192.10.100.20) of the computer you are using. IP address and domain are identifiers that may be used to distinguish between users and identify your internet service provider or your computer itself.

Contact forms

The information our newsletter form, and any other online forms on our website, is collected under the authority of Sections 26(c) and 27(1)(c) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act so we may address your request. Embedded content from other websites

Some content on this site includes embedded content from other websites, including links to social media sites, videos, images, articles, and other websites. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

Once you leave our website, or if you interact with embedded content, the FPCC privacy statement does not apply. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of other websites. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

How we protect your data

The personal information collected is used only by authorized FPCC employees in the performance of their duties and for the purpose that it was originally collected. We will not sell or trade any personally identifiable information that may be collected from our website and will not disclose such information to third parties except as authorized by law.

We protect your personal information by making reasonable security arrangements against risks such as unauthorized access, collection, use, disclosure or disposal. Specifically, access to systems, applications and the collected data is restricted to authorized personnel only. Any personal information collected and used for identifying user trends (e.g. IP address) is aggregated and made anonymous during report generation.

How long we retain your data

For users that register for our newsletter, we also store the personal information they provide so you can receive the communications you request. Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have provided us with information to subscribe to our newsletter, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including this data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
